NVIDIA has taken a far-reaching decision to protect its core customers. The company has promised to make the latest Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3060 “unattractive” for cryptocurrency mining with the ‘GeForce is made for gaming’ initiative.
NVIDIA will intentionally throttle the performance of the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics Card if used for cryptocurrency mining. The decision clearly stems from the horrendous supply shortage of the latest Ampere-based GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. The cryptocurrency mining farms are largely responsible for the situation.
NVIDIA attempting to reign in GeForce RTX 3060 GPU prices even before its official launch and appease gamers:
NVIDIA’s “GeForce is made for gaming”, could ensure crypto miners ignore the upcoming GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics Card. The company will ensure the graphics card performs poorly if used to mine cryptocurrencies.
NVIDIA has confirmed that it will deliberately throttle the RTX 3060’s Ethereum mining performance by 50 percent. This will make the graphics card much less attractive to cryptocurrency miners. The GPU maker has claimed that their RTX 3060 “software drivers are designed to detect specific attributes of the Ethereum cryptocurrency mining algorithm”, preventing the RTX 3060 from reaching its peak performance levels when mining Ethereum.

This is indeed great news for gamers who have been fighting an uphill battle for the acquisition of the latest Ampere-based NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. These new GPUs are exceptionally powerful. Moreover, their prices are quite aggressive to compete against the RDNA 2, Big Navi-based AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series of Graphics Cards.
However, cryptocurrency miners have taken a very aggressive fancy towards the new Graphics Cards from both companies. In fact, the situation is so bad, the prices of NVIDIA’s upcoming RTX 3060 Graphics Cards have already surged to insane levels even before its official launch.
With its decision to detect cryptocurrency mining and bring down the performance, NVIDIA has sided with gamers. However, the company hasn’t abandoned the rapidly increasing market of GPUs designed exclusively for mining cryptocurrencies.
NVIDIA will release NVIDIA CMP Graphics Cards for mining cryptocurrency:
NVIDIA clearly values the cryptocurrency mining industry. Hence, to meet the needs of cryptocurrency miners, the company will be creating CMP (Crypto Mining Processors). These graphics cards will attempt to satisfy the market’s ever-growing demand for mining performance.
NVIDIA’s CMP products will lack display outputs and cannot output graphics. These limitations will render the Graphics Cards useless for gaming. However, they will be highly suitable for mining cryptocurrency.
Finally some good news 👍👍

NVIDIA has confidently stated that these new mining cards “don’t impact the availability of GeForce GPUs to gamers”. This announcement should alleviate the concerns of a lot of gamers, who have been unable to purchase new gaming products for months. The simple reason for the severe lack of availability is the insatiable demand of cryptocurrency miners.
It is not immediately how effective NVIDIA’s crypto-blocking drivers will be in easing the supply and demand situation. Moreover, it seems the company has placed software blocks only for Ethereum cryptocurrency mining.

There are several other cryptocurrencies besides, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, etc. Moreover, talented code writers might just succeed in breaking the software blocks and unlock the full potential of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Graphics Card.
