The most eagerly awaited video-game of 2020 just keeps throwing new curveballs at gamers. The latest glitch in the game can corrupt ‘Save Files’ for the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077.
Apparently, the all-important ‘Save Data’ of Cyberpunk 2077 can get irreversibly or permanently corrupted. The reason for the corruption appears to be ‘hoarding’. Simply put, gamers need to be selective about the in-game items.
Player Save Data in PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 gets corrupted if the player is a hoarder?
Cyberpunk 2077 has been getting pretty bad reviews even though it is one of the most visually immersive and intellectually stimulating video games of the 21st century. The game has suffered several and severe glitches on multiple platforms.

Although the majority of the bugs and glitches in Cyberpunk 2077 aren’t dealbreakers, some PC players are experiencing a more serious issue. There have been multiple reports about Game Save data of players becoming corrupted and irrecoverable in the game.

After a quick investigation, it seems Cyberpunk 2077 save files will become corrupted and unreadable if their file size grows over 8MB or 8192kb to be exact. Incidentally, this a very huge size, and the majority of the gamers should not hit the same, but still, there have been quite a few reports.
How to avoid Game Save Data in Cyberpunk 2077 from getting corrupted and irrecoverable?
GOG, a digital distribution platform for video games and films, says, “Unfortunately the save is damaged and can’t be recovered. Please use an older save file to continue playing and try to keep a lower number of items and crafting materials.”
“If you have used the item duplication glitch, please load a save file not affected by it. The save file size limit might be increased in one of the future patches, but the corrupted files will remain that way.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is a very expansive game. And hence, there are several collectible items including rare weapons, vehicles, etc. Needless to add, gamers need to collect items to proceed in the game. But hoarding items can become troublesome.

It is important to note that once corrupted, the Game Save Data is irrecoverable. However, the game does seem to have AutoSave functionality. This means that affected players should be able to load up previous checkpoints.

Game Save Data size limit is certainly a relic from the older game consoles that had extremely limited storage space. Modern-day game consoles and PCs have ample storage space, and Game Save Data doesn’t require a ton of space anyway.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, and Xbox One. PS4 digital sales remain suspended. Given the compatibility of the game, it is not clear why CD PROJEKT RED left the save file size limit.
